Handicapped Welfare Federation is running a special school to provide the education and medical rehabilitation services
Handicapped Welfare Federation (HWF) is a registered voluntary organization under the Societies Registration Act 1860 (No. 5791 dated 1973) working for welfare, education, training rehabilitation, medical-care, counselling, placement, recreation of the persons with locomotor disabilities. HWF ‘by, for and of’ the orthopedically handicapped persons has been trying its best to assist the weakest of the weaker section of the society that is, the persons with various disabilities to stand on their own feet and live a life with dignity and grace.
‘HWF special school is a place for children with special needs towards integrated and comprehensive special education. It’s a place that helps children with special needs access the adapted, consistent program, duly designed with the aim of comprehensive efforts for students’ development through the professionals to give pathways to the mainstream activities.
HWF has also evolved into an educational support system for very young students with disabilities who have developmental delays, specific learning disabilities, or multiple disabilities. We are working with children with special needs.
We have Multi-Disciplinary Team of Special Educator, Speech and Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Clinical & Child Psychologist, Counsellor, Physical Educator, Art Teacher, Music Teacher, and Dance Teacher since we are registered as a society in year 1972 and working for the development of society at large.
HWF is an endeavor to reach out to the children who have diverse learning needs across disabilities or multiple disabilities by providing them inclusive education with the support of specialized therapists.
HWF have the Polio Centre which meant for treatment and rehabilitation services for the patients suffering from polio which includes orthosis and if required corrective surgery consultations.
Disabled children with special health-care needs may have a variety of medical conditions requiring often a multidisciplinary treatment. The most commonly faced by the paediatric surgeon are cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and Spina bifida.Surgical care providers need to evaluate issues that may impact preoperative decision-making carefully when treating disabled children as they have or are at risk for chronic, physical, developmental, behavioural, or emotional conditions. The surgeon caring for these children must not only anticipate the unique intraoperative and postoperative potential challenges for such children but also the impact of the child’s condition on the whole family life.
Physiotherapy for kids with disability may vary for every child. After all, physiotherapy for young children with any condition is different than physiotherapy for older kids. However, in reality the role of physiotherapists is no less significant. In fact, physiotherapy for kids with any condition is even more important than in adults.
HWF have the units of physiotherapy for the children still growing, They still need all the same components of the body that an adult does muscles, bones, etc. So it is imperative that the physiotherapist monitors the progress of growth, checks on the range of movements of joints, the strength and flexibility of muscles, the range of functional abilities such as coordination, and the development of physical skills and motor abilities.
The physiotherapy program designed for a child will be customized to meet the specific needs of the child, to alleviate his or her physiological complaints. This is why parents must be involved in the process from the outset so that they can provide the necessary feedback on the overall progress of their child.
The most common complaints associated with children and physiotherapy treatments are muscle pain and stiffness, joint pain, swelling, growth deformity, lethargy, decreased movement, irritability, emotional problems, and fractures. When a child experiences pain or stiffness, it is essential to determine the cause first. A physiotherapist can provide the appropriate instructions for the post-operative activities depending on the age and the physical structure of the child. Sometimes physiotherapy for hyper children is done separately by the parents and the special educators.
HWF have its own workshop to support the children and adults using Aids and Appliances Assistance to enhance the mobility with a objective to support them in improving their quality of life in terms of mobility,
We saw most of the child and adult with disabilities wants to improve their quality of life in terms of mobilityand performing their daily activities due to which they need Aids and Appliances (Supportive Devices). These Supportive Devices or Aids & Appliances can directly enable people with disabilities to participate in the activities of daily life. People with disabilities may use Aids/Appliances on their own or with the support of other people. It reduces barriers between people with disabilities and their environments.
With the application of modern technology, a number of aids have emerged which can reduce the effects of disabilities and enhance the economic potential of the Disabled. However, a large number of disabled persons are from the low-income groups and are deprived of the benefits of these appliances because of their inability to find funds to acquire them and consequently of dignified independent living.
